This week we headed east for a few days. We followed the Columbia River through the gorge until the landscape changed, and we knew we had left our urban forest behind for a much more arid clime.

Have you ever noticed that some travels and experiences have their own color palette? I felt completely immersed in the startling blues and warm golden tones.

(This is one of my favorite ways to appreciate a golden hue).

My kids could not get enough of the blue.

Home again, I find myself comforted by the grays, muddy browns and dark greens that define my own environment, but I’ll be dreaming of those golds and blues for days to come, I’m sure.
